Required materials:
Book -"Geology in the Field” by R.R. Compton, Field notebook (available for $20 from me), clip board, protractor, ruler, colored pencils, tracing paper, BOOTS, hat, sunscreen, day pack.
Structure of the class:
This class will consist of a series of field projects each worth from 5 to 10% of the final grade except project #9, which serves as a final exam and is worth 30% of the total grade.
Grades will be based on 1) class participation, 2) notebook entries, 3) report (figures and text if required).
There will be some lectures, but we will try to get “out in the field” as early and often as possible. For many projects, you will have to return to the field area on your own time after class.
Projects will usually be due the Friday after they were assigned. There will be one compulsory over night field trip and one compulsory Friday afternoon field trip.
Arrive at each class at the designated place ON TIME and ready for the field (with all the required stuff.)
