Download python for your operating system (see sidebar).

Unzip and install all packages following instructions.

Download and unzip PmagPy package

Installation of PmagPy on a Mac:

• For initial installation:
  • Make a folder in your home directory called "PmagPy"
  • Follow instructions for Mac OS for setting your path
• Copy the entire contents of the pmag-X.XX directory into the PmagPy directory.
• Test installation:
  • open a new Terminal window (terminal.app in your Applications:Utilities folder)
  • type: eqarea.py -h
  • This should give you a help message.

Installation of PmagPy on a PC:

• For initial installation:
  • Make a directory C:\PmagPy
  • Set your path (if you have not already done so) by following the Windows instructions
• Extract the entire contents of the pmag-X.XX directory into C:\PmagPy
• Test the installation by:
  • With the Start button, find the "Command Prompt" (sometimes this is under All Programs => Accessories)
  • Click on the Command Prompt Window
  • Type: eqarea.py -h
  • This should give you a help message.
